Hello

So far only Scar of the seven top 8 Japanese players that top cut in the Masters Division at Worlds 2015 has released an article on their Worlds Team reports

While we are all waiting I have been looking at the other Japanese Players who made Day 2

Akifumi Yoshihara finished in 54th place out of the 72 players that completed all seven rounds

So here is his team report

I have just participated in the world congress held in Boston and WCS2015.

I participated in the Victoria league at the end of March of this year, and I have been testing teams built around Mega Kangaskhan and Mega Metagross, but I eventually decided that have for this World Congress Tournament I would build a team around Mega Salamence.

This team had several changes but I eventually got settled on these 6 bodies.

1. Results report

DAY1 (Swiss 6 matches) finished with a 4-2 record made it to DAY2

DAY2 (Swiss 7 matches) finished with a 3-4 record and finished # / 54th out of 72.

  1. Made two build changes Day 2

○ Jolteon

The biggest change I made was the type of Hidden Power I used on Jolteon.

Because I didn’t have the move Protect on Scizor I wanted another way to KO Heatran as I only had Hydreigon using Earth Power to deal with Heatran.
○ Scizor

I added Feint and I used this move more than I thought I would.

○  Swampert

Ev distribution

Relaxed nature 207-131-136-121-113-72

I had changed the Ev’s to 1hko Mega Camerupt (177HP 126Special Defence) with Muddy Water

High probability to endure two return’s from 177attack Mega Kangaskhan
Endures two brave bird’s from 133attack Talonflame
With intimidate Swampert can bear two play rough’s from 172attack Mega Mawile

Firstly how awesome was Worlds 2015 and I should have gone down to my local bookies and placed a bet on a CHALK team winning Worlds

Well done to Vierra and all the other players that went to Worlds this year

I’m not sure if anyone at Nugget Bridge will translate Scar’s Team article so I will just translate some of his article as I don’t speak/read Japanese so I rely on various translation tools and japanese dictonaries to muddle my way through articles and I would hate to mess up a vital part of his thoughts at Worlds this year so I will just translate what I am confident about such as moves, ev’s etc

This is the team which I used to reach 6th place at Worlds WCS2015 which was held in Boston from August 21 to the 23rd.

This was my 2nd time at the world congress following my appearance last year.

Based on last year’s experience I aimed at “good stuffs ” build and two types of speed control “thunder wave” and “trick room”

Up until recently I had been using a Mega Salamence team but I didn’t play almost any pokemon in July and during the final week before departure to Boston I started to do my final adjustments but it wasn’t possible to win at all, and a big impatience was felt. So I decided to build a Kangaskhan team in a hurry. Using a combination known as CHALK (Cresselia Heatran Amoonguss Landorus Kangaskhan) was tried, but I thought my lack of experience using this team would be a great disadvantage especially in the case of a Kangaskgan mirror match confrontation.

It was decided to use a team after consulting a friend that I had made in March based around Mega Gardevoir which I was accustomed.
But I was worried as I used this team at the Victoria League tournament in March so I made several corrections as was necessary to avoid people knowing this team from my blog.

gardevoir
Gardevoir
Item: Gardevorite
Ability: Trace-> Pixilate
Nature: Modest
Before mega evolution: HP 175 (252) – Defence 100 (116) – Special Attack 176 (116) – Special Defence 136 (4) – Speed 103 (20)
After mega evolution: HP 175 (252) – Defence 100 (116) – Special Attack 220 (116) – Special Defence 156 (4) – Speed 123 (20)
Moves: Hyper voice / Psychic / Trick room / Protect.
* Hp181-Special Defence 120 Kangaskhan is knocked out by a hyper voice in 2 shots (50.2 – 59.6%)
* Hp181-Special Defence 120 Kangaskhan is knocked out by a hyper voice + parental bond double edge rocky Helmet damage twice in 1 shot.
* Hp141-Special Defence 90 Bisharp is knocked out by a hyper voice + rocky helmet damage in 1 shot
* Hp221-Special Defence 100 Amoonguss is knocked out by psychic in 1 shot
* Survives Choice Band Adamant brave Bird from 146 attack Talonflame in all but a few exception cases 6.3% chance to OHKO
* Speed +1 stat faster than neutral natured (252 ev’d) 70 speed group pokemon.

This Gardevoir hasn’t changed from the Japan Cup and it differs greatly from the other pokemon that often sets up Trick Room in this metagame (Cresselia) in that Gardevoir is able to dish out big damage to many pokemon.

amoonguss

Amoonguss
Item: Rocky Helmet.
Ability: Regenerator
Nature: Bold.
HP 221 (252) -x- Defence 122 (164) – Special Attack 105 (0) – Special Defence 112 (92) – Speed 38 (0)
※ Speed IV 6
Move: Rage Powder / Giga drain / Spore / Protect.
* Survives +1 parental bond Return from 177 attack Mega Kangaskhan (1.6% chance to OHKO)
* Survives +6 Play Rough from 112 attack Azumarill
* Survives 2 shots of HP Ice from 172 special attack Life Orb Thundurus-I
* Survives Ice Beam from Life Orb Timid Greninja
* High chance to survive choice specs Draco Meteor from 194 special attack Hydreigon (12.5% chance to OHKO)
* – 1 speed point than slowest (Gastrodon) 39 base speed group

An standard Amoonguss which is often seen, although I do like this effort value distribution. I had used HP ground in the Japan Cup but used Giga Drain as my team didn’t like Gastrodon.

thundurus

Thundurus-Incarnate
Item: Sitrus Berry.
Ability: Prankster
Nature: Modest
HP 185 (244) -x- Defence 95 (40) – Special Attack 165 (36) – Special Defence 120 (156) – Speed 135 (28)
※ Defence IV 30
Moves: Thunderbolt Thunder wave Swagger Protect
* Hp167- Special Defence 126 Shuca berry Heatran is a 3hko using Thunderbolt while Heatran’s Heat Wave has a 1.8% chance to 3HKO after Sitrus Berry recovery
* Hp207-Special Defence 135 Suicune, is a 2HKO including sitrus berry
* Survives Hydro Pump in the rain from 156 special attack Life Orb Politoed (15/16 times) 12.5% chance to OHKO

An unusual nature for Thundurus. It was to deal with an rainy party I faced but the most important role for this Pokemon was to interfere with my opponents therefore physical & special defences were increased. Let me say only this at the end, please. “SWAGGER IS GOD!!!!!!!”

landorus-therian

Landorus-T.
Item: Assault Vest
Ability: Intimidate
Nature: Adamant
Hp165 (4) – Attack 215(244) – Defence 111(4) -x- Special Defence 101(4) – Speed 143(252)
Moves: Earthquake / Knock Off / Rock Tomb /Rock Slide
* Rock Tomb is a 1HKO on Charizard Hp185- Defence106.
* High chance to survive HP Ice from Life Orb Thundurus-I 177 Special attack 6.3% chance to OHKO
* Fast speed

This Pokemon was updated on the morning of Day2. On Day1 I had used Rock Tomb with Life Orb. I wanted to adopt four aggressive moves so I decided on Assault Vest. In the beginning  I was planning to adopt stone edge as may rock-type move, but I thought all of the middle-speed pokemon so Rock Tomb offfered great synergy and helped reduce speed on opponents speed.

heatran

Heatran
Item: Shuca Berry.
Ability: Flash Fire.
Nature: Modest
Hp191 (196) -x- Defence133 (56) – Special Attack200 (252) – Special Defence 126 (0) – Speed 98 (4)

※ Defence IV 30
Move: Heat wave/ Earth Power / Hidden power (ice)/ Protect.
* Hp171-Special Defence120 Mega Salamence,  I have a high chance to 1hko with HP Ice (15/16) 93.8% chance to OHKO
* Shuca Berry helps survive Life Orb earthquake from 194 attack Landorus
* +1 speed point above common Heatran

Heatran is I think the strongest pokemon in this metagame. I was worried about whether to make my Heatran the slowest (73) but I judged that a lot of Aegislash would have speed ev’s so I selected a modest Heatran and reduce the burden of playing. I only added 4 speed ev’s so I was at 98 speed rather than the common 97.  I held a Shuca berry for mirror confrontations between Heatran’s and the chemistry with the Hidden power ice was excellent. I was able to handle opponents Landorus earthquake’s and it was possible to 1 shot Landorus and Salamence. I think it was probably my MVP of this tournament.

tyranitar

Tyranitar
Item: Life Orb
Ability: Sandstream
Nature: Adamant
Hp207 (252) – Attack 204 (252) – Defence131 (4) -x- Special Defence 120 (0) – Speed 72 (0)

※ speed IV 12
Move: Rock Slide/ Crunch / Low Kick / Protect.
* Low Kick + one turn of sand damage, has high chance to 1shot Hp181 -Defence 120 Kangaskhan (15/16)
* Low Kick high chance to 1 shot Hp167 – Defence126 (12/16)
* Rock Slide 1hko Hp 186 – Defence90 Thundurus with Rock Slide
* 1 speed EV Slower than slowest Heatran (73)

In the team Azumarill was employed in Day1, but it was changed to Tyranitar in a hurry. Main reasons I changed was so that I could pit pressure on Charizard and to add more help against any rain party. This Tyranitar was capable of overwhelming opponents under trick room and thunder wave + there was great synergy with rock slide dishing out big damage on many Pokemon and was a great help against Aegislash which my team dislikes very much.

CHALK Team

With Worlds VGC 2015 starting tomorrow I thought it would be interesting to look back at some of the CHALK teams used commonly by Japanese VGC players this year

The CHALK team has had great success at so many Japanese tournaments this year, often with a different sixth member fluctuating between the teams so it will be interesting to see if a variation achieves success at Boston in 2015.

For those that don’t know the CHALK team it is these five pokemon

cresseliaheatranamoongusslandorus-theriankangaskhan

Cresselia Heatran Amoonguss Landorus-T Kangaskhan

Before I forget I wanted to thank 117Jokes from Nugget Bridge for helping me obtain a Cresselia for those that don’t know him he is a very generous breeder on Nugget Bridge who often does free giveaways of unique or legendary pokemon on the trade threads. He kindly gave me a Cresselia as with my worklife and keeping on top of this website I don’t have the time to spend in game soft resetting legendary pokemon.  So thanks once again 117Jokes for helping me obtain a legendary pokemon.

On a side note I’m actually heading from the UK to Dallas Texas and New Orleans Louisiana in september/october visiting my son who is working in Texas at the moment, and as it happens I’m in Dallas for the week of Houston Regionals and it seems too good an opportunity not to head to houston via a greyhound bus to attend that regional, however as I have no legendary pokemon I have a massive favour if anyone could donote me any pokemon to help build a decent team for me to take to that Regional I would be grateful i’m thinking any spare cloned legit non breedable pokemon such as landorus thundurus heatran etc

So if there is anyone out there with any spare unbreedable pokemon let me know via a pm on nugget bridge or find me on twitter at @oldmanvgc

Anyway on with the show

Since ORAS was released I have been slow in my team construction, and I wasn’t progressing after a while, the SANABARERU (Gardevoir/Amoonguss) combo build began to be popular during summer last year and I had used it in the Japan Cup as it was easy to use.

I had thought about another team build I was going to use at the Battle Gloria preliminary (27th off), but I didn’t as I though that build wouldn’t work and I wanted to attempt perfection so because I was accustomed with SANABARERU I had to agree with the present meta-game and brought my Japan Cup team.

After looking to have a physical and special defensive Amoonguss for the team, I noticed that this Ev spread and nature would let me survive psychic from Mega Gardevoir.
In fact in my battle with Mr. IRI I endured his psychic from Mega Gardevoir and won the battle.
I also thought of sludge bomb energy ball or HP ground as my aggressive move.

Adopted as reasonably strong answer (to some degree) to the recently growing use of CHALK teams (Cresselia Heatran Amoonguss Landorus Kangaskhan)
I had originally thought safety googles but changed the item to sitrus berry
Dark pulse & Protect are standard moves but rather than Draco Meteor Dragon Pulse or Flamethrower I decided on Tailwind and HP Ice as I wasn’t using a power-up item I felt HP Ice was a good fit against 4 times weak to ice Pokemon
Tailwind could be used in various situations early stage, middle stage and the final stage, and was useful for bringing me victories
It was my MVP

4 HP 252 Special Attack 252 Speed

167-*-126 – 200-126-129

This was my Japan Cup Heatran and it held Life Orb so I swopped items and used Shuca Berry and I think I should drop some speed and make Heatran more durable.

In qualifying I had 5 WINS 2 losses qualifying second in my block
I advanced through two more battles which I miraculously progressed to the final, but lost the last match but finished runner-up and acquired the right to go to the Battle Gloria Finals next month!

Individual explanation

Kangaskhan

I wanted strongest mega pokemon.
Thundurus

Rocky Helmet and Sitrus Berry were taken, so I held safety goggles, but it was insignificant this time. My Rain team measure.
Landorus.

Intimidation and consistent answer to ground and electric attacks. My way to process Charizard.
Amoonguss

I’m never brought Amoonguss. I think this team needs other suitable Pokemon
Cresselia

I didn’t want the slowest Cresselia speed as I wanted to move before slowest Cresselia. Hidden power Ground was fine for this team, trick room isn’t used.
Heatran

It’s easy to use.
